Stichting NCO Arnhem & Nationaal Noodnet Foundation Partners with MadCap Software to Foster Students’ Collaboration, Creativity and Speed in Delivering Business Continuity Proposals

La Jolla, CA and Arnhem, Netherlands — November 8, 2017 — The Stichting NCO Arnhem & Nationaal Noodnet Foundation is partnering with MadCap Software to assist students participating in a collaborative educational program focused on crisis management and business continuity. Through the MadCap Scholar Program, teams of students in the Business Continuity Experience Program (BCEP) will gain experience in publishing business continuity proposals using MadCap Flare, the most advanced technical authoring and publishing solution on the market.

The BCEP takes place in the last remaining nuclear bunker of the PTT/KPN in the Netherlands, which now serves as a museum and historical center, as well as an operational time capsule. The location provides a nontraditional setting for the program, where students with a security background can engage in an immersive curriculum. There, teams of four to six people work together to write a full business continuity proposal for creating systems of prevention and recovery to address potential threats to an organization.

Previously, students used Adobe® FrameMaker® to centralize and publish their proposals as part of the coursework. Looking to move to a modern authoring and publishing solution, the foundation’s board of directors and teachers decided to partner with MadCap Software to make MadCap Flare the core software for all educational materials and student exercises.

As a first step, the organization conducted a pilot in which one team used MadCap Flare to develop its proposal while three other teams created theirs with Adobe® FrameMaker®. The MadCap Flare users prepared themselves by downloading a demonstration version and following several online training videos before coming to the bunker. Then, using MadCap Flare, they were able to complete their business continuity proposals in just 60% of the time normally required. Based on the success of the pilot, MadCap Flare is being installed in all of the workstations in the bunker.

The students’ results with MadCap Flare were stunning and looked so promising, I felt confident in suggesting that we completely switch to MadCap’s software for the BCEP. Despite initial fears of students facing a steep learning curve, they were quickly dismissed when we saw how the students took advantage of the speed and versatility of Flare to produce their proposals. We look forward to enabling all of our students to gain experience with Flare and MadCap’s full suite of software in producing their business continuity proposals.

Rene van der Velde | Chairman,  Stichting NCO Arnhem & Nationaal Noodnet

“The Stichting NCO Arnhem & Nationaal Noodnet Foundation has created a unique and innovative educational program with the BCEP–combining a historical reminder of disaster recovery with its nuclear bunker location with state-of-the-art approaches to business continuity planning,” said Anthony Olivier, MadCap founder and CEO. “We are honored to partner with the foundation in fostering BCEP students’ collaboration with MadCap Flare and our MadPak technical communications suite.
