The MadCap Software Scholar Program Welcomes
Northern Arizona University Partners with MadCap Software to Build Students’ Expertise in Modern Documentation Techniques and Tools Required by Today’s Businesses
La Jolla, CA and Flagstaff, AZ — October 18, 2017 — Northern Arizona University (NAU) is partnering with MadCap Software to empower students in its Professional Writing program with the modern documentation writing and technical skills required by businesses today. Through the partnership, students will gain hands-on experience with MadCap Flare, the most advanced technical authoring and publishing solution on the market, which is now used by thousands of companies worldwide.
NAU offers two Professional Writing programs. A certificate in professional writing allows students to improve their workplace writing skills and to handle the emerging demands that professional writers face. A master’s degree in professional writing is for students who want to explore professional writing issues more deeply. Master’s degree students are required to create workplace content as their capstone project–such as web content, project proposals, grant proposals, and reports–suitable for use in a professional portfolio.
One NAU senior lecturer incorporates MadCap Flare into her Content Strategy course, which gives students experience in working with the technologies that businesses are requiring their employees to use. Students use MadCap Flare to practice modern documentation concepts, such as single-source publishing, and other widely applied content creation and delivery techniques supported by the software.
When my students completed an assignment to investigate job advertisements for employment in technical writing and editing, many of the ads they found required a knowledge of MadCap Flare. So, in developing my Content Strategy course, I knew I needed to integrate MadCap’s software into my assignments. My students are now learning about single sourcing and gaining familiarity with MadCap Flare so they can be competitive in the job market, as well as stay abreast of the technical writing tools currently being employed.
