MadCap Software Accelerates Growth in 2H 2006, Exceeds Expectations

MadCap Flare Drives Significant Profitability, Captures 16 Percent of the Market in Nine Months.

San Diego, CA, USA – January 3, 2007 — MadCap Software, Inc. today announced that, for the second half of 2006, revenues grew at an average of 50 percent month-over-month, exceeding expectations. The rapid growth builds upon the solid profitability that MadCap has enjoyed since the March 2006 introduction of Flare, its flagship Web content and document authoring product.

Flare, the first native XML-based authoring application, is rapidly becoming the solution of choice for organizations that need to publish their business content in multiple variations and venues – on the Web, in print, around the world, and in multiple languages. According to a recent WritersUA survey, MadCap Flare – on the market for only nine months – is already being used by more than 16 percent of the documentation professionals surveyed, outpacing some competitive software products that have been on the market for more than a decade.

Today more than 1,000 companies are customers of Flare, including some of the best known names in business: Ameriquest Mortgage Co., Chevron, CitiGroup, Deere & Company, Dow Jones and Company, E & J Gallo, Exxon Mobil, Google, Intel, JP Morgan, Oracle, Pacific Gas & Electric Company, Pfizer, QUALCOMM, RR Donnelly, Spirent Communications, Textron Inc., Turner Communications, Xerox, and Wells Fargo. Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) is both a customer and strategic partner. The most popular uses of Flare include product documentation, online Help, business/manufacturing policies and procedures, employee handbooks, and easy-to-access content for call center agents.

“The Web has accelerated our demand for content and expectations for real-time accuracy – and it is turning more business content owners into content publishers,” said Anthony Olivier, MadCap CEO. “The popularity of Flare is driven by technical writers, Help authors, and other documentation professionals who appreciate Flare’s Word-like ease of use and the unique ability to compose content in the XML format, without requiring knowledge of XML programming. This capability is essential for writers working on Microsoft’s new VISTA platform, and today is only available with Flare.”

Olivier added, “Our customers also appreciate the ability in Flare to simply tag content in order to publish it in multiple venues and languages, make updates by adding the new information once, and populating it automatically wherever applicable. They recognize that these experiences aren’t available with older generation authoring products.”

In October 2006, just seven months following the initial release of Flare 1.0, MadCap delivered Flare 2.0, which has served to accelerate demand and boost the company’s profitability. In Flare 2.0, MadCap has added Adobe FrameMaker® import/export to the existing Microsoft Word import/export, making Flare the first true single-sourcing, XML-based authoring application on the market. Double-byte and extended language support were also added in Flare 2.0 to include Eastern European and Asian languages.

“The strong initial adoption of Flare across the documentation community is a true testament to our cutting edge, future-proof technologies,” said Olivier. “The aggressive release schedule for Flare and introduction of Capture for screen capture in October demonstrate our ability to deliver the industry’s most innovative and advanced authoring suite of products. The profitability we’ve gained this year leaves us well positioned to round out our suite in 2007 with new ground-breaking products for software simulation and documentation, and further establish our leadership in the Web content and documentation authoring market.”
